  • Nominations are Invited for the 5th European Greenways Award, 2011

    The European Greenways Association announces the 5th European Greenways Award, 2011. This award, recognising the promotion and development of non-motorized routes in European countries and regions, was created in 2003 (1st EGA) and, since then, has been held biennially.

  • Spain, Portugal and Poland Win EU Funding for Senior Holiday Programme

    As part of the CALYPSO Preparatory Action, the European Commission has approved the project presented by Spain, Portugal and Poland to work jointly on preparing a seniors exchange system in the low season. Representatives of the three national administrations will work for eleven months to start up these transnational exchanges of senior tourists in 2012.

  • Survey: Tourism, Travel, and Hospitality Experiences of People with Hearing Impairments.

    The New Zealand Tourism Research Institute, Auckland University of Technology is conducting a survey for the New Zealand National Foundation for the Deaf concerning the tourism, travel, and hospitality needs of people with hearing impairments. The survey aims to gather responses from people all over the world who are either deaf or have hearing loss.

  • Strategic Framework for Tourism in England - Action Plans Out for Consultation

    The Strategic Framework for Tourism in England 2010 – 2020, launched in spring 2010, identified key drivers for securing our industry’s future. A series of Action Plans outlining shared priorities have now been compiled by cross-industry groups focussing on activities to be implemented in the first three years of the Strategic Framework’s 10 year period. ENAT Members are invited to download the Action Plans and send comments to VisitEngland.

  • ELMA Newsletter no. 4. News from Snowpolis, Finland

    January has been ELMA’s biggest month yet. Thanks to the efforts of the ELMA team here in Vuokatti, much has been accomplished. This month has seen the First steps into the future Ridderrennet International circuit, Research cooperation between the Snowpolis research units and Paralympic sport, and more importantly the future of Sport and leisure for the disabled to be cradled here in Vuokatti.

  • Projecto Turismo Inclusivo (Portugal)

    The general objective of the project "TOURISM INCLUSIVE - Competencies for Care of People with Disabilities" was to conduct a study that may contribute to the achievement of national policy of inclusion of persons with disabilities, particularly in regard to their access to tourism services by: The identification of specific needs of people with disabilities, on the reception - service - service; The identification of skills, in terms of care and service necessary to meet those needs; The construction of a "package" of training aimed at developing these specific skills.

The seasonality of tourism in Spain, and in Europe in general, is one of the most relevant limitations when trying to improve its competitiveness, and business and social-economic profitability. In a time of recession and budget cuts in the public administrations, an opportunity to strengthen the tourist activity in the mid and low seasons arises, by rekindling the labour market with an active employment policy, strengthening the relations between the societies of the EU member states, and extending citizens’ right to travel and go on holiday, through social programmes that facilitate and motivate new influxes of tourists.
