Representatives of the three national administrations will work for eleven months to start up these transnational exchanges of senior tourists in 2012.

The three administrations – the Secretary of State for Tourism and Trade and SEGITTUR (Sociedad Estatal para la Gestión de la Innovación y las Tecnologías Turísticas) for Spain, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism for Poland, and the INATEL Foundation for Portugal – will work over the next 11 months to implement this action and enable transnational trips for seniors in the low season.

The European Commission launched the CALYPSO Preparatory Action in 2009 with the aim of achieving “tourism for everyone”, focusing on four groups: seniors, young people, disabled people and families facing difficult social and/or financial difficulties.

The aim is to promote the exchange of tourists between member states in the low season. The participating EU member states are aware that tourism provides opportunities for developing business, employment and improvement of the quality of life of the citizens.
