This conference seeks to bring together disability groups and disabled users of air transport, with senior representatives from major European airports and airlines, to discuss how the new regulation will be implemented in a way which is workable for the aviation industry and which meets the needs of disabled passengers.

Everyone deserves the right to travel when and where they want to go. The new European regulation places a duty on airlines not to refuse to carry people on grounds of disability other than in exceptional circumstances. This came into force in July 2007. In addition, a new requirement for airports to provide ground handling and other services to meet the needs of people with reduced mobility will come into effect in July 2008.

Key issues to be discussed:

  • Why we need laws: the reality of air travel for disabled people
  • Meeting disabled passenger needs: the challenge for the airports
  • Defining and delivering quality assistance
  • Staff training - the key to good customer service
  • Engaging with disabled people: working in partnership
  • Delivering results: the role of enforcement bodies
