The Asociațion, CED România Centre of Excellence in Diversity established this project, funded by the Timișoara Municipality Project Centre, in connection with the European Capitals of Culture, 2023.
The project addresses inclusion of persons with disabilities, with a focus on accessibility of cultural buildings, staff training and information. Managed by CED Romania, several objectives are developed under the project umbrella.
AUDARA is a revolutionary web application designed to enhance accessibility in Romanian museums, promoting a more inclusive environment for cultural exploration. This robust platform meticulously analyses approximately 300 parameters, based on a comprehensive range of accessibility criteria that conform to existing legislation, global best practices, and the expertise of certified auditors. These auditors, specialists in the field of accessibility and accessible tourism, conduct rigorous on-site visits to assess the facilities. The app generates comprehensive accessibility reports, serving as a pivotal tool for identifying areas of improvement and directing the investment needed to eliminate barriers.
25 cultural venues in Timișoara have been audited for their accessibility. The project also delivers training to project team members and engages with managers of ciultural heritage sites and museums to raise their awareness of accessibility and support their plans for making access improvements in their buildings and facilities.
3-dimensional models of the venues are created, giving a tactile experience of the structures to blind and visually-impaired visitors. The models are equipped with radio-frequency sensors and QR codes that provide audio description of the objects to visitors.
