Open Letter to New European Commission President on Need for Robust, Sustainable Tourism Policies

03/11/2019 | 0 comments

Logo of EU Touirsm Manifesto group50 European tourism stakeholders and 15 Members of the European Parliament appeal to the EU Commission President-elect Mrs. Von der Leyen for greater recognition of tourism in the new EU Commission and the creation of a Commission portfolio on “Transport and Tourism”.

The Tourism Manifesto stakeholder group, coordinated by the European Travel Commission (ETC) includes ENAT as one of the early signatories. We recognise the value of tourism to the EU economy, its citizens, busnesses and communities.

We propose a "Tourism Manifesto" in support of stronger tourism policies at EU level.

Our Open Letter is prompted by the fact that the new Commission currently has no plans for a policy unit or a specific budget addressing the tourism sector, which represents a de facto threat to Europe's third largest industry, its destinations, businesses and jobs.
