17/02/2009 French Athletes Claim Victory in South Africa's Outeniqua Wheelchair Marathon

Two French athletes who travelled to South Africa to compete in the annual Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge, held on Saturday 14 February in the historic town of George in the Western Cape, have returned home victorious with gold and silver medals. Denis Lemeunier was the first to cross the finishing line of the 42.2 km wheelchair marathon in a time of 1:42:48. 0 comments

Bonn, Germany – On 3 February, the first Paralympic Winter World Cup will take place in Solleftea, Sweden, bringing together over 200 athletes representing 26 countries from around the world. 07/07/2009 Accessibility: Understanding, Progress and Opportunities

The UK's Disability Discrimination Act has been in force since 1995, with enforcement measures fully implemented since 2004. This article looks at where we are now as a country offering accessible tourism, what more needs to be done and the opportunities that exist, especially in view of hosting the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012. It also outlines the role of a new project – Open Britain – being launched in July 2009 by Tourism for All UK and disability charity RADAR.

5th Edition, published 2008 by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on behalf of the Controller of Her Majesty’s Stationery Office, United Kingdom. It is the distillation of many years of research and experience of the safety management and design of sports grounds. The Guide has no statutory force but many of its recommendations will be made statutory at individual grounds by their inclusion in safety certificates issued under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 or the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987.

On 12 July 2005, a Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre Research workshop was held at the New South Wales Department of State and Regional Development, titled Setting a Research Agenda for Disability and Tourism. This report outlines the background to disability and tourism in both the Australian and overseas settings, and details the process used for the workshop, which has led, in turn, to the prioritised research agenda that forms an integral part of this report.
