8 February 2024, Athens. Hosted by the Greek National Tourism Organisation, the 9th Annual Meeting of the Market Intelligence and Marketing Groups of the European Travel Commission (ETC) enjoyed a stimulating collaborative Workshop addressing Accessible Tourism in the context of National Tourist Organisations' (NTOs) research and marketing activities.

The theme of the 9th ETC conference, "Pioneering Accessible and Climate-friendly Destinations", occupied two meetings of the Marketing Intelligence Group and Marketing Group of the Commission, with the participation of 103 members, who obtained the best impressions from the Greek National Touirism Organisation.

The delegates represented the national tourism organisations of the countries:
Austria, Belgium/Flanders, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Türkiye.

The Accessible Tourism Workshop was organised and led by 3 ENAT Experts, Ivor Ambrose, Emiliano Deferrari and Katerina Papamichail, with additional first-hand experiences from leading accessible tourism destinations presented by Director of Tourism Development Teresa Ferriera, Turismo de Portugal and Katrien Mampaey, Head of Quality at Visit Flanders.

The large group of NTO participants rolled up their sleeves and worked on a series of challenges, debating how to address accessibility within the organisation, exploring accessibility KPIs and identify key messages for possible accessibility marketing campaigns. Training and reference materials from the session were later distributed in an Info-pack to the delegates to inspire and guide their work.

Mr. Eduardo Santander, executive director of the European Travel Commission (ETC), sent his thanks for the Greek organisation to the GNTO:
"We appreciate the hosting of the 2024 ETC Annual Meeting by the Hellenic Tourism Organization. Athens provided a fantastic backdrop to delve into the 2024 research and marketing agenda, with a resolute focus on sustainability and accessibility for all. We also addressed the pressing effects of climate change on tourism in Europe and the promotion of responsible travel practices, drawing inspiration from successful strategies across the continent."
