ELEVATOR Report 1. Accessible Tourism Training

This report provides an analysis of Accessible Tourism training practices based on surveys carried out in the project partners’ countries and information from other European studies and experiences in the field. It concludes with an accessible tourism training curriculum for managers and staff in small and medium-sized tourism enterprises.

It indicates the required skills, knowledge and competencies that should be developed and describes the more successful methods and forms of learning and training which could be adopted to provide efficient training/learning, harmonizing the education with the market needs.

The final section of the report presents a proposed outline of an accessible tourism training curriculum for SME managers and staff in the tourism sector.

The aim of this report is to inform how to promote education in accessible tourism at national and European levels, how to integrate this topic into the present/new curriculum or educational strategies and how to improve quality and efficiency of education in accessible tourism.

End-users: ENAT members, training providers, curriculum designers, policy makers (primarily in education and vocational training), teachers, learners.

ELEVATOR Report 2. Inclusive Tourist Guiding

This Handbook is a learning material focused on Inclusive Tourist Guiding. Its creation was initiated by the tourist guides, who meet tourists with access needs more and more often in their work, as their number is growing mainly due to the ageing population. Training offers on this topic are weak or completely absent in most countries. Inclusive (or also accessible) guiding is based on the concept of Accessible Tourism, that endeavours to improve tourist destinations, products and services so that they are accessible to all people regardless of their age, abilities, permanent or temporary limitations and impairments.

ELEVATOR Report 3.1 Accessible Tourism Guide | Visitors

Accessibility is an important topic in tourism, yet often overlooked. It seems that the main reason for that is lack of knowledge and cooperation between key stakeholders

This Report is therefore created as a brief guideline introducing this topic and giving answers to 3 main questions:

What is accessible tourism?
How can accessibility in tourism be improved?
What are the benefits of accessible tourism?

It has 3 parts where each part is dedicated to one VIP group, that each play an important role in the development of accessible tourism: Visitors, Tourism Industry, and Policy Makers.

Visitors' Guide

This chapter (Part 3.1): “Be Actors more than Recipients” is dedicated to Visitors, i.e. all users of tourism infrastructures and services including residents, who could have more courage and be more pro-active in demanding accessible environments, products and services.

End-users: Destination managers, tourism providers, visitors and local citizens with specific access requirements, teachers and students of tourism and hospitality.

Accessibility is an important topic in tourism, yet often overlooked. It seems that the main reason for that is lack of knowledge and cooperation between key stakeholders. This Report is therefore created as a brief guideline introducing this topic with particular attention being paid to the Industry - tourism providers - who need to be aware of visitors' specific access requirements and learn how to cater appropriately for their needs, so as to improve their competitiveness and sustainability.

It has 3 parts where each part is dedicated to one VIP group, that each play an important role in the development of accessible tourism: Visitors, Tourism Industry, and Policy Makers.

Industry Guide

This chapter (Part 3.2): “Be a level above rather than just a step ahead“, focuses on Businesses in the Tourism Industry, i.e. tourism service providers, who should meet the accessible market demand and make their business more competitive and sustainable.

End-users: Tourism providers, destination managers, tourism policy makers, teachers and students of tourism and hospitality.

This Report is created as a brief guideline introducing this topic with particular attention being paid to the role of Policy Makers in fostering a suitable environment for cooperation and motivation of all stakeholders in order to lift up the tourism offer and environment for living.

It has 3 parts where each part is dedicated to one VIP group, that each play an important role in the development of accessible tourism: Visitors, Tourism Industry, and Policy Makers.

Policy Makers' Guide

This chapter (Part 3.3): “Lift upward not only push ahead“ is aimed at Policy Makers, i.e. politicians, public authorities, tourism boards and other decision makers in tourism and access policies on national, regional or local level, who are expected to take into account citizens' needs and create a suitable environment for cooperation and motivation of all stakeholders in order to lift up the tourism offer and environment for living.
