Invitation to the International Conference on Accessible Tourism in the Czech Republic

15 November 2010, Ostrava. Accessible tourism stakeholders and fans will meet in November in the Moravian-Silesian Ostrava. Regsitration is now OPEN.

We are very pleased to announce that the International Conference on Accessible Tourism will be held on 15th November, 2010 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The event will present the ATHENA project outcomes and international experience in accessible tourism and related human resources development to all potential stakeholders representing NGOs, national and local authorities, ministries, educational and training institutions etc.

Šumava Region Achievements Unfold!

The first ATHENA project workshop “Accessible Tourism Issues, not only in Šumava area” took place in mountainous Southern Bohemia region of the Czech Republic, in the town of Vimperk in the middle of June.

The first ATHENA project workshop “Accessible Tourism Issues, not only in Šumava area” took place in mountainous Southern Bohemia region, in the town of Vimperk in the middle of June.

The workshop revealed several good examples of NGOs successful involvement in accessible tourism, e.g. “Travelling without barriers in Šumava and Bavarian Forest” project led by Trianon – Čechy (one of the ATHENA national partners) or “Accessible Šumava” – the project of National Park Šumava.

Some of them were inspired by Austrian hotel chain founded 10 years ago by the local charity – not only do they welcome all guests but also employ people with disabilities.

Last November they were fully booked for 2010 season! The success lies in creating an environment where people are satisfied and their recommendation is of the highest value for their friends.

The next Workshop will be held on September 17th, 2010 in Nová Paka, Hradec Králové region.

ATHENA Workshops Across the Country

Accessible tourism entrepreneurial potential is to be revealed in four different regions of the Czech Republic.

In order to disseminate and mainstream into Czech practice the experience and knowledge gained on the international level, several workshops are planned to be held in different regions of the Czech Republic.

Four workshops will be addressing mainly representatives of NGOs and employers of disabled persons in order to introduce accessible tourism as one of the areas, where they can expand their activities e.g. in form of social enterprise.

The first one was already held in Šumava in June and will be followed by 3 further workshops planned to be held in Moravian Silesian, Hradec Králové region and Prague region.
