Projects and Good Practices

The tourism sector already has many examples of good practice which are helping to making travel and tourism accessible for all. These examples must be better known and used by the industry in order to bring about innovation and improvements on a wider scale.  The cases shown on these pages are placed here to generate discussion and inspire change.

No example is perfect but these projects and practices show what has been achieved in many different areas of accessible tourism.

  • U.K. 'Accessible Travel and Leisure' Franchising Scheme

    UK-based company, Accessible Travel and Leisure specialises in creating holiday packages for customers with disabilities. In 2007 it launched a new franchising scheme which provides the opportunity for disabled people to run their own business from home, selling accessible holidays.

  • Happy Tourist

    The HAPPY TOURIST project aims to offer equal opportunities to people with disabilities in the tourist sector, either as tourists or as staff, based upon the combination of innovative, modular and cost-effective ICT tools, e-learning concepts and on-the-job-training schemes.

  • DIADA - Developing and Introducing a New Training Approach in the Tourism Sector.

    The project aims to identify and define requirements of the demand and supply sides in the tourism sector (both disabled people and tourist industry workers); to prepare an information model for disabled tourists, (by including disabled people in the whole process), and to deliver suitable training programmes for the tourism sector.

  • EU.FOR.ME Tourist Training for a Wider Target

    The project 'EU.FOR.ME Tourist training for a wider target' aims at filling a gap that Schools, Universities and Training Centres offering programmes on Tourism, have in many European countries. It addresses how disabilities can be taken into consideration in the organisation of tourism training modules.

  • Ski 4 all - Adapted skiing programme in Greece for skiers with disabilities

    Professional ski instructor, Thodoris Petropoulos introduces the adapted skiing programme taking place in Vassilitsa, Grevena, throughout the winter season. The programme offers people with disabilities, individually or as parts of schools, clubs and institutions the chance to take winter vacations learning how to ski, along with appropriate training, equipment and accommodation.

  • Accessibility Information Scheme ‘Toegankelijk Vlaanderen’, Belgium

    The on-line database, 'Toegankelijk Vlaanderen' (Accessible Flanders) contains information regarding the accessibility of buildings, premises and tourist facilities such as town and city halls, schools, hotels, museums, socio-cultural centres, sports centres, cycle paths, footpaths and other tourist facilities in the region of Flanders, Belgium.

  • Adapted Skiing Programme in Greece

    Ski instructor, Thodoris Petropoulos, introduces the adapted skiing programme taking place in Vassilitsa, Grevena, Greece throughout the winter season.

  • Europe for All

    Europeforall.com was developed, with the support of the European Commission, by the pan-European partnership, OSSATE, which stands for "One-Stop-Shop for Accessible Tourism in Europe"
