  • ENAT Joins European Disability Forum's "Freedom of Movement Campaign"

    EDF’s Freedom of Movement campaign is a much-needed initiative to raise awareness of the huge gap between the expectations of people with disabilities to travel freely and the actual situation in Europe, here in 2011. ENAT is pleased to give its support to EDF’s demands for equal access to goods and services and the recognition of disability entitlements across national boundaries.

  • Leading Businesses Commit to Global Code of Ethics for Tourism

    Fourteen of Spain’s most prominent tourism businesses have signed their commitment to the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism at the first International Congress on Ethics and Tourism, which was officially closed by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias (Madrid, Spain, 15-16, September).

  • UNWTO and Partners to Promote Accessible Tourism for All

    The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the ONCE Foundation for Cooperation and Social Inclusion of People with Disabilities and the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT) have signed a Cooperation Agreement aimed at developing ever more accessible tourism for persons with disabilities (Madrid, Spain, 16 September).

  • ENAT Supports Italian "Manifesto for the Promotion of Accessible Tourism"

    Showing its commitment to put into effect Article 30 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Italian Ministry of Tourism has created a Manifesto promoting Accessible Tourism. ENAT is the first international NGO to support the manifesto.

    From 27th to 29th of May; the 15th Annual General Assembly of the European Disability Forum (EDF) gathered the whole disability movement in Budapest. Among all the important topics, the 200 participants focused on how to make sure the European Union will guarantee freedom of movement for all persons with disabilities.

  • UNWTO Plans New Actions to Make Tourism Accessible for All

    The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is convinced that the facilitation of tourist travel by persons with disabilities is a vital element of any responsible and sustainable tourism development policy. Announcing a new tri-lateral agreement with external partners, Fundación ONCE and the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT), the UNWTO aims to provide guidance in this area to policy makers, destinations and tourist enterprises.

  • Accessible Tourism Destination Certification Programme by TGB, Belgium

    The first international certification programme for accessible tourism destinations has been developed and carried out in Lousã, Portugal by the Belgian Accessibility Office, Toegangelijkheidsbureau (TGB). The Certification Programme is a completely new destination management tool which provides an accurate measure of the excellence of an accessible tourism destination, based on strictly defined criteria.

  • Releasing Constraints: Projecting the Economic Impacts of Increased Accessibility in Ontario

    This study, commissioned by the Government of Ontario, examines the potential economic impact of achieving substantially higher levels of accessibility. In 2010, the Province will introduce five proposed standards through which the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005 will be implemented. These standards are intended to achieve substantially higher levels of acessibility. Our study reviews the economic impact of increased accessibility on individuals, on markets, and on social units. We find that there are opportunities at all three levels to realize non-trivial economic gains through enabling a higher number of Ontarians to participate fully in the province’s economy.
